Rob and Sue were married in Holy Trinity Church in Rushams Rd, Horsham where Sue had been a choir member for many years. They met at Rice Brothers a large motor establishment in the centre of Horsham. Rob's father was a director of Gilbert Rice (Agricultural division) and Rob trained as a motor mechanic having decided not to progress a career in the Navy. He became salesman at the Horsham branch where they met. Straight from School Sue was an office junior earning 15/- per week and quickly rose to Secretary to the Managing Director aswell as running the Insurance Department. They made their home at Ashington where they made life-long friends. They enjoyed making their first garden with a pond and lived there for 7 years.
